I am coming back?

So it's been 7 years and I didn't know this blog still existed....well google was good enough that when I typed blogger.com, google brought me back right where I had left exactly 7 years back (thanks google!)

Well lot has happened in last 7 years to the extent that i don't recognize my old self anymore...somethings are still the same [i still dream hopelessly of things that are realistically beyond...], I am still a foolish dreamer and I still want to lose weight... :)

To cut the long story short...this is what 7 years have been like..

1. MBA finished [best days...]

2. Married right after

3. Moved to Bangalore

4. Switched jobs...moved to Pune [felt like I am home]

5. Stayed here for last 5+ years, worked for a long time / multiple roles in a bank

6. Switched jobs again few months back, will be relocating..

and ya! got a fine beauty [she is 20 months old and keeps me on my toes]

....much more to come...

Why you can't hope to get slim in a punjabi family:

  1. Because your family believes a decent portion of sweets, ghee, dry fruits and dairy everyday is essential for remaining healthy.
  2. Because they think they have used less oil in vegetables if oil level in the pan is lower than 2 inches.
  3. Because you are asked what you want to eat right after you had your lunch/dinner/breakfast and if you are not hungry, you will be fed fruits or juice.
  4. Because going to gym or for a jog is considered too extreme, the best exercise is slow paced walking while eating ice-cream.
  5. Because you are made to eat 2 chappati's when you are not hungry and at least twice the required calories when you are actually hungry.
  6. Because after you had a sweet and hence your mouth is sweetened, you will be given fried namkeen just to change the taste in your mouth.
  7. Because punjabi mom's version of fat starts from 40 inches of waist and anything below is considered normal.
  8. Because taking coffee/tea without sugar is considered a health hazard.
  9. Because you always have 2-3 prasads at home from some temple/festival/occasion/relative etc. and guess what, prasad is sweet and not eating a decent portion of prasad is considered very bad.
  10. Because if you are in mood to eat something light, you will get suggested to eat paneer with dal makhani.
  11. Because when a punjabi boy comes home for a short vacation to home, his mom has to feed him to her heart's content otherwise she will feel bad when he is gone.
  12. Because not taking at least 2-3 helpings of food means you didn't like the preparation and it will directly hurt the one who cooked the food.
  13. Because you are encouraged to take rest/sleep right after taking your food......
  14. Because it's fashionable to take dinner late in night, you are fed fried pakoras, chicken, paneer, potatoes in evening.

A corporate story

This is story of a tiny little hardworking ant in a jungle too damn big. Here it goes...

So there was this ant, and she was all very hard working and sincere. But she had a very strong wish, she wanted to experience flying...she wanted to fly!

So one day, ant goes to her boss, The Crow, in her area.
Ant said, "O bird! Will you be so kind enough to grant my wish. I wish to enjoy the pleasure of flying."
Crow thought and replied, "Yes, why not! But I need to eat something before I can fly. What do you have?"
"I have my stack of Sugar for the year! You can have that.", charmingly said the ant.
Crow: "But I don't eat Sugar, bring me some insects and I will think about your request."
Ant went into deep thought, and then she started piling her stack of sugar out of her anthill into the open, so it will attract the insects.
Seeing this, the Crow got happy and had mouthful of insects. Crow asked the ant to come the next day :)
Next day when ant showed up, Crow was sitting with her boss, The Buffalo. Buffalo outright denied the birds request and said, I can't allow Crow to fly since he needs to pluck insects out of my back. But if ant can gather enough fodder for Buffalo to keep busy eating, maybe ant will get her wish.
So thought the ant, maybe if I put this effort, I will get my dearest wish. And so, ant set out to gather fodder for Buffalo straw by straw. After long time, ant gathered a stack the size of a buffalo's height. Seeing this, buffalo got happy and asked ant to come the next day for her wish.
Next day when ant showed up, Buffalo was sitting with his boss, the elephant. The elephant, outright denied the ant's request saying, if ant wants to get her wish, she should first get him enough sugar canes.
Ant went into deep thought, but worked hard enough to gather a huge stockpile of sugar canes from all across the forest worthy for the huge elephant. Now the elephant was happy. He asked ant to come the next day.
Next day when ant showed up, Elephant was sitting with his boss, the Dinosaur. The Dinosaur again denied the ant's request and asked ant to gather enough animals for Dinosaur to eat so he can grant ant's wish.
Ant was very troubled, first she was frustrated and secondly, she was so confounded as to how such a small ant can gather lot of animals together. So ant, again started collecting sugar. She then stockpiled it in open. Seeing this insects and rodents came to eat the sugar. Seeing rodents other animals and big birds of prey came to eat them. Thus, very soon there was a huge crowd of animals.
Seeing this Dinosaur was happy. And he asked ant to come the next day for her wish.
Apprehensively ant went the next day. Dinosaur was sitting with the Crow, Buffalo and elephant. All of them appreciated ant's work. Then Dinosaur said, "Ant I am going to grant your wish". Saying this, Dinosaur picked up the ant, put her on top of a leaf of a high branch of a tree and then blew her away with a strong breath. And so the ant flew with the wind and came down after a few minutes.

All these events left ant very sad (and old, she spent most of her life!), she thought, why did I not think of this myself. All Dinosaur did for me I could have done myself by climbing a tree and then jumping of it. I always relied on my hard work but never on my tiny little weight. Why did I not dare taking a little risk? Why did I not throw myself out to the wind on my own. Why did I not think beyond the obvious? WHY DID I RELY ON OTHERS HELP AND DIDN'T TRUST MYSELF ENOUGH?

Finding Inspiration in Science Fiction

Yeah I am a fan of Science Fiction. The only thing that pushes me to live longer is the thought to see the advanced super computers or Space ships I have been reading in the novels till now. I dream of the day when we are not bound by our physical limitations, will live infinitely and have inhibited millions of planets on many galaxies. But alas! I was born a few millennia early.

And so from time to time I resort to watch famous Sci-Fi TV series to satiate my undying urge to experience future!

I watched Star Gate SG-1 series...and that was the most wonderful experience.

The last Episode of the last Season (Season-10) of the Series named, "Unending" was the best creative end of a TV series I have ever seen. It can make you cry, gasp in awe or simply inspire! It's just too good. So here is a brief...

SG-1, the heroic team which is the focus of the whole TV series, acquires the most advanced technology and every bit of knowledge ever gathered by a long time friendly race of aliens who have come to an insurmountable problem in their physical evolution and will be extinct soon as a race. Armed with such reserves of knowledge and technology, the team's spaceship starts its journey back to earth, when their ship is confronted by 3 Ori Motherships (a very bad, villainous alien race) . No matter how hard the team tries to escape the mother-ships, they get found all the time. Running out of time, even as their tecnologically advanced ship is running out of defensive shields, they decide only way to gain more time is to generate a localized time dilation field with-in the ship. So even though for a person outside their spaceship, time will pass normally, the time within the space ship will slow down so much that they can spend years of normal life inside the ship while outside only a few microseconds will pass. Thinking this will give them enough time to find an alternative way to stop Ori ships from destroying them, they go ahead and execute it. Once within the field and having spent a few months, they realize however, their is no safe way out of this predicament. The moment they disable the field they will die. The team however, doesn't give up, they spend their entire life time trying to find the solution to get out safe and to keep safe the knowledge of the now dead race. They spend 50 years on the space ship and then a fine day, when they are all old and weary, they figure out a way to reverse the time field and also get out of the impending doom! That was the most interesting and satisfying end to a TV series ever!

Music

Is music for time pass or can I not live without it?

free verses

Had to make up the rest forcefully just to complete this post, only the first one came to me naturally :)

ONE:
I ran, I got tired,
I walked, my destination never came any closer,
I sat, and wondered on futility of life,
I slept, I forgot everything...

TWO:
My creativity has run dry,
Only a few songs, can still make me cry..
I have seen lowest lows to highest highs
Now nothing's left to do, but to sigh..

THREE:
I was born a darling, raised as a prince
And nothing good has happened since
Now I am a sore
For life there is nothing more

FOUR:
today was like any other day
tomorrow will be the same
from eyes of today i have seen the beyond
My happy days are bygone...

Random Quotes

Some quotes I just made up while lunching today...if you put them on t-shirts, do send me some royalty!!

If marriages are made in heaven, who the hell imports them to earth.

If marriages are made in heaven, they really fail at 6-sigma (or they really fail at quality testing)

Maybe marriages are made in heaven, but I need production support down here! :)

I think now I know that love exists. From quantum physics, every particle has an anti-particle. If this can be extended to emotions, and since I know for sure hatred exits, so its anti particle love must also exist.

I don't understand emotions, they are neither particle, nor wave (or both).

Don't tell me you are not gay! I know you get fucked by your boss everyday.

I am not gay, my boss is straight!

Do you live with passion?

Do you spend every waking moment thinking about just a very few goals you have set for your self? Are you full of positivity, dream of a gleaming future ahead and think of all setbacks as just another challenge to over come to reach your life goal?

Backing up a little, to achieve such state of orientation, you first need to have figured out what you really want in life. Do you feel jealous of seeing someone working in a career which you think is more cooler than yours? Do you feel jealous of others material possessions or living standard? Do you feel negative about yourself just because you are not like the ones you envy? - Then you haven't really found your passion or you are hiding behind false reasons to stop yourself from following the goals you really care about.

Did you always wanted to be a writer but have ended up in a dead end IT job? Are you more concerned about a monthly pay check to pay the bills or are you more concerned about the precious time of your life slipping by doing something you never wanted?

Do you think that your situation is hopeless and that you can never achieve what you really want?

I know you have long hours at job, and you come home tired, but did you ever try to spend time for your hobbies later in night rather than just watching TV, sleeping or chatting up with your so called girl friend?

Do you think spending a few hours a day won't take you where you want to be? But have you ever thought how much you can achieve by following this routine day by day for months or years?

Can you ever free yourself from the cycle of paying bills and the wait for monthly checks and do what you were intended to always?

There is always a way...all you need is to take a step forward, and then another, and then another and never retrace them back, just because it became too darn hard!

You may pay with sweat and blood, but you will earn that eternal satisfaction after all!
